Creating Your First Site

Most likely your first task after installing ColdBricks will be to create a new site. A site is a web application that can be created and managed using ColdBricks.

There are two ways in which you can create a new site: from the Administration Dashboard, and from the Site Management module. From either the Administration Dashboard or the Sites Management module, click on the Create a New Site button.

On the next screen you will be prompted to select the type of site to create. ColdBricks comes with a feature called SiteTemplates. A site template is a blueprint of how to build a certain type of web application. Out of the box ColdBricks comes with a few SiteTemplates that can be used as starting points for your site. All site templates in your ColdBricks install will be displayed as icons on this page. To select a template just click on the corresponding icon.

After selecting the site template you will be prompted to enter more information about the new site. You need to provide a name for the new site and its location as a relative path from the root of the webserver.

Click on the Create Site button to complete the creation of the new site. Once the process is completed you will be taken to the Site Dashboard screen. The Site Dashboard is the central place from where you will be able to start constructing or customizing your new site.

NOTE: The site name may only contain letters, digits, the underscore symbol ( "_" ) and the space.

NOTE: The application root should always start with the backslash ( "/" ) character. The path provided as the application root must not already exist on the server. However, you can create a site to be deployed to the webroot by using "/" as the application root.
